R&F encaustic pigment sticks
R&F encaustic pigment sticks are composed of an oil paint with the addition of wax, formed into the shape of rods which are aligned with the best quality oil paints.
For their production have been used only traditional materials: natural wax (beeswax and vegetable), linseed oil and pigment.
The encaustic sticks contain no additives, fillers or substitutes, that are commonly used in industrial production. Pigment sticks are handmade in small batches and are at the emphasis on precise balancing of the individual components.
These oil paints in form of pigment sticks can also be applied cold (unlike the R&F wax blocks) on the already finished image even without using any tools. It is also possible to melt them and combine them with other kinds of waxes and materials. Encaustic sticks are richly pigmented and have a lipstick-like consistency.
The advantages of working with pigment sticks:
- they can be thinned with turpentine or mineral spirits,
- they may also be combined with linseed oil, or a resin gels,
- they can also be used on already dried oil painting,
- using clear oil sticks called Blending stick is possible to enhance transparency of the pigment in the image sticks or mix two colors together,
- sticks can also be mixed and applied to the image using a spatula to create very interesting effects.
Encaustic sticks are available in 91 hues.
